2020年を振り返る年末の特別企画として、アーティストやDJなど様々な方に、ベスト・トラックや、1年をどんな風に過ごしたのかをお伺い。第31回目は、ロサンゼルス在住のシンガーソングライター、俳優・ OVERSTREET（オーヴァーストリート）が登場。

2020年はみなさんにとってどんな1年になりましたか？　DIGLE MAGAZINEでは、今年を振り返る年末の特別企画として、アーティストやDJなど様々な方に、ベスト・トラックや、2020年をどんな風に過ごしたのかをお伺いしました。

第31回目は、ロサンゼルス在住のシンガーソングライター、俳優・ OVERSTREET（オーヴァーストリート）が登場。

PROFILE

ナッシュビル出身ロサンゼルス在住のシンガーソングライター、俳優。
大ヒットドラマ「glee」へサム・エヴァンス役として出演し世界中にファンを持つChord Overstreetによるオルタティブ・ポップ・バンドプロジェクト。2018年「Carried Away」、2019年にEP「MAN ON THE MOON」リリースし本格始動する。
Elvis Presleyを主としてMarvin Gaye, The Beach Boys, The Policeなどから影響を受け、新しいサウンドながら80sテイストを感じるどこか懐かしい雰囲気が病みつきとなる楽曲を発表している。ドラマ「glee」で幾度となく披露しファンを魅了した歌声も健在だ。

父は、グラミー賞も受賞したカントリーシンガー Paul Overstreet、「Tonight Tonight」の大ヒットで知られるHot Chelle Raeの Nash Overstreet を兄として持つ音楽一家の中で育った。
「glee」出演後、音楽のキャリアに集中するため、多くのテレビ出演のオファーを断念。そして2016年にNick Jonas、Demi Lovatoらが設立した「Island Records」と契約する。gleeの共演者であり親友でもあったCory Monteithに捧げる楽曲としてリリースされた「Hold On」は、2億1600万再生、リリックビデオは2億800万再生の記録を更新中。2018年に独立しOVERSTREETとしての作品をリリースしている。ARIZONAやJake Millerなどのアーティストと楽曲制作も行っている。
2020年5月にシングル「Summertime」で日本デビュー。7月10日には日本2ndシングル「Blue」をリリースする。

Some You Loved / Lewis Capaldi
僕は、シンガーソングライターがとてつもない成功を収める姿が大好きなんです。この曲には時代に左右されない良さがあって、プロダクションも潔いくらいシンプル。古き良きスタイルの物語。

I love seeing singer-songwriters having success on a massive level. This song is timeless and doesn’t lean on any production tricks. Just good, old-fashioned storytelling.

Circles / Post Malone
Lewis Capaldiの”Some You Loved”に続いて、とてもシンプルな歌詞だけどどんな人生を歩いてきた人でも共感できる、そんな曲です。

Another song with simple lyrics that people from all walks of life can relate to.

Watermelon Sugar / Harry Styles
窓を全開にしてドライヴするのにぴったりの曲。素晴らしい。

This is a song to roll down the windows and drive to. So well done.

Suｍｍertime / OVERSTREET
OVERSTREETの日本デビューシングルに選ばれた曲で、とても嬉しかったのを覚えているよ。とにかく”夏”を思い起こさせる曲にしたかったんだ。

It was my first single released in Japan as OVERSTREET and I was so excited about it! I just wanted to have a bunch of summer visuals.

No Ordinary / Labrinth
秀逸なサウンドプロダクションがとてもクールな雰囲気を作り出している1曲。

Love the production and it just has such a cool vibe.

A Postcard from the City of Angels / The Night Game
LAに住んでる人は、街に住む天使たちと上手くいっている人もいれば、悪い関係にある人もいる。その事を歌にした曲！

Everyone who lives in Los Angeles has a love/ hate relationship with the City of Angels. And this song tells that story!

7 Summers / Morgan Wallen
テネシー・ナッシュビルで育った僕にとっては、共感できることがたくさんある1曲です。昔の恋愛を振り返って、相手の事を考えてみたり、相手が自分の事をたまには思い出してるか気になったことはあなたにもあるでしょう？

A lot of things I can relate to in this song given that I grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. We all have that young love that we think about and wonder if they ever think about us.

Blue / OVERSTREET
陽気な楽しいビートの上で、寂しくてブルーな気持ちを歌った曲。悲しいという感情を重たく遅いビートに乗せて表現した曲は数多くあるけど、アップテンポで歌うことによって頭の中の寂しさをひっくり返せたらいいなと思ったんです。

It is fun, upbeat take on feeling sad and “blue.” There are plenty of songs about being “blue” that are downtempo and I figured and uptempo song could flip that feeling on its head.

Holy / Justin Bieber featuring Chance The Rapper
この二組のコラボも好きだし、ジャスティンの真っ直ぐさが歌詞に表れていて良いなと思います。友達として、ジャスティンが幸せでいてくれて僕も嬉しいです。

Love this collab and how honest Justin is in his lyrics. He is a friend of mine and I am happy to see that he is happy.

Sunday Best / Surfaces
この曲好きじゃない人っているのかな！？とても気持ち良くなれる名曲で、2021年のアンセムになってくれたら良いなと思うほどです！

How can you not like this song?!? It is the perfect feel good song and, hopefully, an anthem we can all get behind in 2021!

Best Part / H.E.R., Daniel Caesar
この曲みたいなR&Bの名曲がもっとあれば良いのに！素晴らしすぎる歌詞とコラボが最高です。

We need more great R&B songs like this! Great lyrics and killer collab.

Carried Away / OVERSTREET
何でか良くわからないけど、聴いたら気分が良くなる曲だと思います。太陽をたっぷり浴びながらゆったり過ごす、南カリフォルニアの美しい一日を歌っています。

Carried Away is one of those songs that just makes you feel good. It’s about soaking up the sun and letting loose on a beautiful southern California day.

Massive fan of Tame and this is probably my favorite off of the new album.

OVERSTREETの2020年

2020年はあなたにとってどんな1年でしたか？

OVERSTREET:

皆さんにとって、忘れたい1年であった事は間違いないと思います。アーティストにとっても、パンデミックのせいで色々やりづらかった1年でした。個人的には、友達と一緒に曲を作る予定が流れてしまったり、ファンの前でライヴが出来なかったりという事がありましたね。僕も含めて皆さんが、当たり前だと思っていた日常生活の中の小さな出来事がとても幸せな事だと実感したんじゃないでしょうか。その経験が今後の希望に繋がっていると信じたいですが、もしそうじゃないとすれば早く忘れてしまいたい1年でした。

I think we can all agree that 2020 was a year that we would all like to forget. The pandemic made it really challenging for artists in many ways. I missed the opportunity to make music with my friends and play shows for my fans. I think we all took for granted how much the little things in life make us happy. I think that reflection could be a silver lining to an otherwise forgettable year.

12月31日はどう過ごしますか？

OVERSTREET:

来たる新年に向けて、今年はおとなしくし過ごします。少ない人数で、家族や友達と過ごす予定です。（もちろんソーシャルディスタンスを保って！）

I will be keeping a low profile this year for New years. I will probably just spend it with a small group of friends and family (Socially distanced of course!)

2021年にやりたいことや予定していることは？

OVERSTREET:

2021年には、僕たちの当たり前だった日常が少しずつでも戻ってくることを祈っています。アーティストとして僕は、人との触れ合いや経験を通してインスピレーションを受けることがとても多いんです。新しいワクチンによって、僕たちにとってとても大切な人との触れ合いや繋がりを取り戻せる事を切に願います。ツアーに出て、ファンの皆さんにお会い出来る日が楽しみです。問題なくツアーが出来るようになったら、もちろん日本はすぐにでも行きたいと思っています！

I hope that 2021 brings a return to some sense of normalcy. As an artist, so much of my inspiration is drawn from huma experiences and interactions. I am hopeful that the new vaccine will allow for us to get back to that social interaction that is so important to us. I am looking forward to traveling again and getting to meet my fans. Hopefully, Japan is one of the first places I get to see when travel opens back up!
